I was looking for a software DVD ROM Drive but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Why not?

The DVD-ROM Drive is a hardware device, not software. You may be thinking of the DVD-RAM which is also a hardware device but is used to store computer files (software). These files can be dynamically recorded or deleted the same way as on your computer hard disk. In addition to storing up to 5.2GB per double-sided cartridge, you can record up to 10 hours of CD-quality audio or 230 minutes of MPEG-2 video. DVD-RAM drives usually require a SCSI controller due to the high throughput requirements.
